News

I came across this sad news
update yesterday –
“Five of our defence personnel
Lose their lives, reason unknown”
How easy it is to say that
As though their life didn’t matter
Had they been a politician,  then
We’d have seen the media’s tantrums
They were young, full of enthusiasm
But chose instead to serve their country
Managing to curb dreams and comforts..
Whenever troubles knock at the door
We take our seats on our plush sofas
In front of our large flat-screens
While they go out and fight our fears
They take it all upon their shoulders
So we can live in peace and dream on
My respect and salute is always there
Although I know that it isn’t enough

Dreams

Last night, I woke up
to the inky silence
My mind started
debating again –
as always – making
sense of my life
And this crazy mind
of mine decided
that now, it wants to
live like the wild wind
lives – free, spirited –
Without any boundaries!
I smiled and fell asleep  (-_-)zzZ

Books ♡♡

I love reading. Really, I can’t recall how I started off with this habit. It helps me relax. Even when I happen to have to go to a place where I’d probably have to wait, I always make sure to carry a book with me, and manage to enjoy the wait. I’ve also introduced the miracles of reading to my children.
Back when they were younger, I’d tell them stories every night, and since they used to enjoy it a lot, it probably led them to read books. I’m rather proud of the fact that despite their (extremely) young age, they always respected the literary tomes and never harmed them. Both my children are avid readers now – so much so that my house looks rather like a library.
In my son’s case, I introduced him to the short stories that I would read to him at first, until he was familiar with them. Then came The Famous Five. Now, he reads practically every kind of book there is. With my daughter, her first book was The Faraway Tree. She’s always been the kind of person who’d never do something if she was supposed to do it. I guess she likes to take her own decisions. Therefore, when she was in the first grade, and had just started reading entire sentences, I’d bought the aforementioned and kept it on the main table. She had considered it for a while before asking me whether she could read it. At the time, I was honestly feeling like – ‘yay! I did it!’ – although in front of her, I played it cool and managed a – ‘if you want to, darling’. And now, she has read so many entire series – some of them not once but several times!
See, fun and the willingness to do something are essential for the wholesome development of children. And really, you must gift your children the marvelous habit of reading. It will definitely enhance their imagination and widen their range of knowledge. And above all, books will become friends who will always be there for them, and do them only a world of good.

Words

There is a limited number of alphabets in different languages. But with these letters, we can make words in abundance – creating magic with their use! Simple word can hold and convey the deepest emotions of the writer – be it their delight, grief, vehemence or elation.
Let’s see; almost everything we know about the past is courtesy of ancient writings and scriptures. Even today, the words we write will someday be read by the future generations and tell them more about us and our time. So I wonder, if words can have such an effect on us, then we should all use them wisely. Like, when we meet people, we can choose to greet them with a smile on our faces and with nice greetings, whether we know them well or not. It costs us nothing! But yes, we may instead gain a beautiful smile, a hug, or maybe even a very good friend. You know, that ‘action-reaction’ thing. Therefore, try to add more beautiful words in your dictionary and reduce the number of hurtful ones. After all, creating something cute is always better than wreaking destruction. -Leena 🙂
